Reading the numbers
The specification gives the structure of the total. Paper 1 and Paper 2 are each out of 75 marks, each has a scaling factor of 1, and the total scaled mark is 150. It states that the qualification is graded on a nine-point scale in line with UK GCSEs. Students who do not reach the minimum standard for grade 1 are recorded as U.
The specification does not list the minimum mark for each grade. OxfordAQA publishes grade boundaries on its own website after each series. Please read them there, and treat each set as describing that series only.
Planning from a target grade
Because both papers are worth exactly half, our teachers plan with a simple split. A target total out of 150 means a target of half that on each paper, adjusted for the student's strengths. A student stronger on bookkeeping than on statements can bank marks on Paper 1. They must still collect marks on Paper 2, since section 3 is assessed in both.
