Year 10
Year 10 IGCSE Accounting tuition
Build the core topics steadily in Year 10, so Year 11 is revision, not catch-up.
One-hour paid trial · Same-day reply · from RM75/hr
Who this is for
- Year 10 students who have just started IGCSE Accounting
- Students who found the first term harder than expected
- Students switching schools or boards mid-course
What we cover
Year 10 is where the core method is laid down. We make sure double entry, the ledger and the first financial statements are understood, so Year 11 can be about refinement and exam technique.
- Consolidating double entry and books of prime entry
- Ledgers, trial balance and its limitations
- Income statements and statements of financial position for a sole trader
- Depreciation and the main year-end adjustments
Every syllabus and exam fact on this site is cited to the exam board’s official documents. See exam boards and Sources.

Steady Year 10 support vs leaving it to Year 11
| Support from Year 10 | Wait until Year 11 | |
|---|---|---|
| Foundations secure before exam year | ✓ | No |
| Stress in Year 11 | Lower | Higher |
| Time to fix misunderstandings | ✓ | Limited |
When the other option is better: If your child is coping well and only wants occasional help, ad-hoc sessions before school tests may be enough. Just message us when you need them.
Why the first year of IGCSE Accounting feels hard
Most subjects reward students for learning facts and repeating them. Accounting asks for something different. Students learn one system, then apply it to situations they have never seen.
Double entry is the heart of that system, and for the first few weeks it can feel backwards.
A capable maths student may wonder why receiving cash is a debit here and a credit there. That is normal. It is the first meeting with a new kind of logic.
The students who struggle longest try to memorise which items are debits and which are credits. Our teachers teach the single rule behind every entry instead.
A student who knows the rule can work out any entry. A student who memorised a list is lost when a question looks unfamiliar.
Small gaps grow quickly
Accounting builds on itself. If the accounting equation is shaky, ledger accounts feel arbitrary.
If ledgers feel arbitrary, the trial balance looks like magic. By the first income statement, the student is building on foundations that were never set.
In a class of thirty, that early wobble is easy to miss. In a 1-to-1 lesson, it is the first thing we look for.
The teacher can pause, ask the student to explain their thinking aloud, and hear which link in the chain has come loose. Then we fix that source, not just the latest symptom.
Switching schools or boards
The concepts of accounting do not change between schools. The order of teaching, the wording of questions and the layout of statements often do. A student can feel behind when they have simply arrived in the middle of a course.
We start by mapping what the student has covered against what the new course expects. Then we fill the real gaps and settle the presentation style their teacher and paper will want. Because lessons are private, none of this happens in front of classmates.
What the first weeks look like
The paid trial lesson is a working session. The teacher who would continue with your child works through a few problems with them and sees where the strengths and gaps are. From there we build a short plan and share it with you in plain language.
For one student, the plan might be two lessons rebuilding double entry from the start. For another, it might be drilling neat layout because the theory is already sound. After that, the pattern is usually the same.
The early weeks build security in recording transactions and reading a trial balance. The middle stretch widens to the books of prime entry and the treatment of assets and expenses. Then come the first full financial statements.
Working with the school
We work in step with the school. If a class test is coming, we prioritise that chapter.
If the school teacher prefers a certain layout, we teach that layout. After lessons we tell you what was covered, how your child handled it and what comes next.
Year 10 is early, and early is good. There is time to build proper habits before the pressure of the final year. Lessons start from RM75 an hour, with the exact rate agreed with you beforehand.
If your child's first term has felt harder than it should, a one-hour trial class will show where the gap is. Book a trial class.

Frequently asked questions
My child is doing fine in Year 10, is tuition worth it?
Year 10 is the easiest time to fix small misunderstandings before they compound. Even fortnightly sessions keep the method solid.
Can you follow my child’s school scheme of work?
Yes. We align with what the school is teaching and fill the gaps rather than running a separate syllabus.
Which board will you teach?
Whichever your child’s school enters them for, tell us on WhatsApp and we teach to that specification.
