What we cover
Private candidates carry the whole course themselves, so we teach it in full. We also explain the practical side: how and where entries are made through the British Council in Malaysia. We link to the official registration pages, where the British Council publishes current fees.
- The complete syllabus taught in a planned order
- Original practice in the style of the structured papers
- How private-candidate registration works through the British Council (we link to the official page)
- Practical planning for sitting two papers at a test centre
Every syllabus and exam fact on this site is cited to the exam board’s official documents. See exam boards and Sources.

Private candidate with a teacher vs going it alone

When the other option is better: An experienced adult learner who has studied accounting before may only need us for exam technique and the trickier topics. The full course may not be necessary.
Who private candidates are
Private candidates come from many backgrounds. Some are adults returning to study who worry they can no longer learn something so technical. Others are school-age students whose school does not offer Accounting, so they add it to a full timetable.
They share one problem. There is no class, no teacher chasing homework and no built-in structure from the first topic to the last.
The sequence, the deadlines, the feedback and the sense of where you stand all have to be supplied on purpose. That gap, more than the subject, is what most often defeats private candidates. Our teaching is designed to fill it.
Starting from what you know
Adult learners often fear starting from zero with no idea what they do not know. Accounting has its own words, and terms such as accruals, provisions and carriage inwards can feel alien. The early sessions are as much diagnosis as teaching.
We work through a few simple transactions aloud and watch where your reasoning holds and where it slips. That turns a vague dread of the whole subject into a finite list of things to learn in order.
For a school-age candidate, the challenge is fitting an extra subject around a full course. We build the schedule around your other commitments. Because lessons are 1-to-1, we can press ahead in quiet weeks and ease off when other exams arrive.
A single business to follow
The first weeks set up double entry and one worked business that we return to throughout. Imagine a small trading business that starts with RM10,000 of capital, buys goods for resale, sells some at a mark-up and pays wages of RM1,200 a month.
We can follow it from its first journal entries to its final accounts. That gives an independent learner the connected storyline a school course would normally provide.
Marking and feedback
A private candidate has no teacher marking daily work, so our feedback matters more. We mark every piece of practice for method as well as the final answer. Accounting awards marks for clear, correct layout even when the final figure happens to be right.
We show you how to set out a ledger so the balancing is clear and how to build an income statement so no adjustment is forgotten. We also show you how to check your own work. A candidate sitting alone must become their own first marker.
After each block of work you get a plain account of what is secure, what is shaky and what we will do about it.
Planning backwards from your sitting
When you first contact us, we start with your realistic weekly window, such as an evening after work or a weekend morning. We build the lessons around it and keep it steady, because drift is a private candidate's biggest risk. We also plan backwards from your sitting.
Without a school marking the terms, it is easy to leave partnership accounts, incomplete records or manufacturing accounts until far too late. Your teacher maps the topics across the weeks you have.
Between lessons you get a focused task list, worked examples to copy for layout, and clear checkpoints. One checkpoint might be preparing an income statement from a messy set of figures, with RM4,200 of closing inventory handled correctly. You send your attempts and the teacher returns marked work with specific corrections.
The exam itself
Registering as a private candidate means finding and registering with a centre. That is handled by you and the centre you choose, and we point you to the centre for anything administrative.
We take responsibility for making the academic preparation complete: the full syllabus, including topics private learners often neglect, and full exam-style questions under realistic timing. For adults who have not sat a timed paper in years, we build up from short tasks to longer mixed papers.
Doing this alone is harder in only one way: you have to supply the structure a school takes for granted. In every other way the 1-to-1 setting helps, because the whole hour is spent on your understanding and your errors are corrected at once.
Tell us your target sitting and your weekly availability, and we will suggest a teacher whose hours match. To start with a plan, book a trial class.

Frequently asked questions
How do I register as a private candidate?
In Malaysia, private candidates usually register through the British Council. We point you to its official registration page and help you plan around the timetable. See Sources. The British Council sets its fees, so its registration page has the current figures.
Can you teach the entire syllabus?
Yes, for private candidates we teach the full course.
Which board is easiest for a private candidate?
There is no single answer; it depends on where you sit and your goals. We can talk through Cambridge, Edexcel and OxfordAQA on WhatsApp.
