Teaching is online, the exam is sat in person

Every lesson we give happens on a shared screen. The teacher prepares ledgers, trial balances and financial statements live with the student, and the student works through a practice set between sessions. It works the same way anywhere in Malaysia, so nobody needs to travel for tuition.

The written papers are different. Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and OxfordAQA exams are sat in person at an approved centre, on the dates and at the times set by the exam board. Students at an international school sit at their own school.

Homeschoolers, learning-centre students and anyone whose school does not enter them register as a private candidate through an approved centre. Planning that entry early is one of the most useful things a family can do.

How private candidate entry works

The British Council international schools site explains that private candidates register online through its School Registration System. A parent or guardian registers any candidate under 18, and an entry is not processed until the fees are paid. Each awarding body sets its own sessions and deadlines, so check the British Council private candidates page for the current windows.

Some Cambridge schools also take outside candidates. The ones we verified publish their own private candidate pages with fees, forms and deadlines, summarised in our Selangor guide. Each centre decides which syllabuses it will enter. The first step is to check that Accounting is available at the centre you are considering, in the board and session your student needs.

What we verified, state by state

We have written a full guide for Kuala Lumpur, covering the British Council exam venue. We have also written one for Selangor, covering two schools that publish private candidate registration details.

In Negeri Sembilan, Soka International School Malaysia in Seremban states that it offers the Cambridge IGCSE examination to enrolled students and to private candidates. The sessions are listed on its page. Its page does not list subjects, so a family would ask the school whether Accounting is offered.

For Penang, Johor, Sabah, Sarawak and the other states, start with Cambridge's centre finder. Then ask the school exams officer about private candidate entry for your subject and session.

Whichever state you live in, message us on WhatsApp and we will help you work out a revision timeline that fits your exam date.

How we plan around your exam date

Once we know the board, the series and the centre, we work backwards. A Year 11 student sitting in May/June usually needs the whole syllabus taught by the end of the previous year. The final term is kept for past papers and timed practice.

A private candidate who is starting later benefits from a diagnostic first lesson. It shows which topics, such as partnership accounts, manufacturing accounts or company financial statements, need the most time. Fees start from RM75/hr, with the exact rate agreed on WhatsApp before the paid one-hour trial. Our exam boards pages show how Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and OxfordAQA differ.

Studying from anywhere in Malaysia: FAQs

Do you teach students outside Kuala Lumpur and Selangor?
Yes. Lessons are online, so we teach students in every Malaysian state. The state pages cover only the exam-entry details we could verify.
Can a private candidate sit IGCSE Accounting in Malaysia?
Yes, through an approved centre such as the British Council or a school that accepts outside candidates. Confirm that Accounting is offered at your chosen centre and session.
Do I register for the exam through you?
No. Entry is made by the family with the exam centre. We help you plan the revision timeline around the date you are given.
